Have you ever notice that often times when we give advice to someone, they don’t listen? They simply carry on with their original behavior, as if what you suggested didn’t really matter.
Frustrating, right?
People started coming to me for advice back in high school. I’m not really sure why, but I think it was because I was quiet and a good listener. However, plenty of people who came to me for advice kept making the same decisions and mistakes that they would ask me for help about in the first place. It was incredibly frustrating, and I almost just wanted to say, “Why do you bother? You’re just going to continue your usual habits anyway.”
This pattern has continued to this day, and I’ve started to recognize the key difference between people who will take and actually use advice, versus those who just want to vent and don’t really want to actually change.
It wasn’t until the last year or two when I started to realize what caused these two different kinds of people, and it’s a difference that I even experienced myself back when I was going through tough times with my mental health.
In fact, it only truly hit me last week about just how important this key factor is towards taking control of your actions, mental health, and overall life.
I know what you’re thinking. Sara, come on, just tell us what it is already!
Okay okay. The absolute most important factor needed in order to change your life:
Mindset.
Yes, it’s kinda cliche. I get it. But have you ever really thought about how important it is? Like, the true impact mindset really has on basically every aspect of your life.
In order for you to truly make a change or an important decision, you have to have the right mindset. Want to be more self-confident? Change your mindset. Take control of your anxiety? Fix the mindset. Stop dating the shitty people? You need a different mindset. Go after your goals and do something scary? You guessed it, that mindset needs to be in the right place.
Granted, improving your mental health can sometimes be a chemical condition, I recognize that. But in order to finally get the proper help you need and do the work to take back your life, you need to decide that you are going to do it. That deep-rooted decision is your mindset, and it’s the key to changing everything.
As another example, let’s say you’re trying to conquer your fear of public speaking. You can practice day and night, 24 hours a day for a solid week and feel as prepared as ever, but if you go into that presentation with this mindset: “I’m terrified of doing this. What if I forget something or stumble on my words? These people are going to think I’m a joke,” there’s no way you’re going to get over that fear.
However, if you go into the speech with the mindset of, “I’m prepared. I’m awesome. I’m totally got this,” you’re much more likely to feel better and finally conquer that fear of public speaking.
The reason I wanted to share this revelation with you is that I had an epiphany last week. The day before my first deadline for my upcoming book, I was up late researching “how to beat your fear of success.” (Hey, I never said I was perfect!) After scrolling and reading through a few articles from Pinterest, the most common denominator behind all of the advice was going back to mindset.
Then it hit me.
Mindset is everything.
It was then when I knew what I needed to focus on this blog.
I’ve always known that I wanted to help inspire and empower millennials to help them live their best lives, but I’ve never really known how or what exactly to focus on to do this. Sure, I was giving scattered advice about career help, productivity tips, and general personal development, but I didn’t have a core theme behind it all to really push a streamlined message for my readers. (Which makes it very hard if I want to write an eBook or create a course for you guys one day.) Now, that’s changed!
My new mission for this blog moving forward: Transforming the millennial mindset to achieve your best life.
The mission statement will probably go through some tweaking, but this is the basic premise behind what I want to help you with from this point on. I want to dig deep and focus on the mindset shifts needed in order to change any aspect of your life that you feel is lacking or needs more attention. Odds are, there’s something in your thoughts and beliefs that are driving your actions and behaviors to produce a life you’re not happy with.
I want to help you make that change.
In fact, not only help, but empower you to feel confident to make these changes and finally live the beautiful life you were born to live.
I’m SO excited to get started.
