And just like that, we’re facing a brand new year. 2015 was a year of hope and new beginnings for me. The previous year was a particularly rough one. Filled with heartbreak, failure, and a lot of soul searching to figure out what I truly want and how I need to achieve it. I declared 2015 to be the year I focused on ME, and boy I sure did.
I kicked off the new year with a surprise: My book was officially published! I couldn’t believe it. One of my biggest dreams came true. It was absolutely unreal.
I continued the great start for the new year with a trip to Walt Disney World for the first time in two years with some of my closest friends. It was incredible; friends from all the important stages of my life came together for this amazing and wonderful vacation. One of my best friends from home, Sara, flew in from Utah. Friends from my Disney College Program (Christine, Meriem, and Lizzie) joined in along with two of my close friends from my current life in Southern California (Melissa and Tori). Everyone got along so well and my heart was never happier. We visited Wizarding World and Diagon Alley in Universal Studios, and spent the rest of the week in the main four Walt Disney World theme parks.
School was starting to crack the whip on me. It was the start and finish of my last two semesters as a college senior. Group projects were rampant, and I was working on training at a new attraction at work (Tower of Terror FINALLY!), and also striving for a promotion to trainer at my main location (Soarin’ Over California). I also started to grow more involved in the cosplaying community through attending my very first convention: WonderCon. Later I even participated in my first D23 Expo, which was tons of fun!
Summer 2015 definitely contained some highs and lows. Christine came to visit Disneyland with her lovely family for the first time, and I took my first trip to Las Vegas since turning 21 for my friend’s birthday. During this time, I also flew to Northern California to attend my grandma’s funeral. It was a beautiful ceremony, and it was nice to celebrate the life of an absolutely wonderful woman and rock to my family.
I also had the chance to spend an entire week in Hawaii at Disney’s Aulani Resort with my family to celebrate my parents’ anniversary! It was absolutely beautiful, and I loved every second of it!
The rest of the summer mainly consisted of work, new friends, and late nights at Denny’s. I also moved in to a new (and better) apartment! Disneyland’s 60th anniversary celebration was certainly a whirlwind, but it was a great experience and I’m forever thankful that I work with some of the greatest people. I concluded my summer with my best friend’s wedding, which was lovely. I’m so happy that she and her husband are blissfully in love and get to share the rest of their lives together!
Flash forward to August: My final semester in college. I made some goals, wrote about my aspirations, and contemplated about the future. Most of my friends were already done with school at this point, so I knew I just needed to push forward and finish strong! I had some incredible groups in my classes this semester, and learned so much about myself and the world of business and marketing. I was also promoted again to working lead at Soarin’!
Tonight is the last night of 2015. Even though this year seems like a blur, looking back I have some incredible memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Even though I’m ringing in the new year at work tonight, I’m thankful I’m spending it with my Soarin’ family. Here’s to 2016’s new adventures – My first year out of college! Let’s make it fun, exciting, and a year to never forget!
Happy New Year everyone!
